Shai Maestro Quartet⎜Human
Shai Maestro is one of the most influential pianists of his generation. At the age of 18, he was spotted by Avishai Cohen and left Israel for New York. There he became the mainstay of the “Avishai Cohen, Shai Maestro, Mark Giuliana” trio, which made jazz history with the album “Gently Disturbed”, followed by “Seven Seas” and hundreds of concerts around the world.
Since 2010, the pianist has been blossoming in a trio with Ofri Nehemya (drums) and Jorge Roeder (double bass). After 3 albums, Shaï is now 33 years old and has reached the pinnacle of his career by signing to ECM in 2018. His first album under the artistic direction of Manfred Eichert, ‘The Dream Thief’, was a success. It confirmed his status as one of the world’s leading jazz composers and pianists.
Human is Shai Maestro’s second album for ECM, and the sixth of his career as a leader. This time, Shai Maestro performs in a quartet rather than a trio. Trumpeter Philip Dizack joins Shai’s faithful companions Ofri Nehemya on drums and Jorge Roeder on double bass. It’s an inspired combination of talents with stunning results. An exceptional recording, made in Lorraine on the premises of the Imprimerie du journal l’Est républicain.
