Avishai Cohen Trio
Known for his talent for spotting the great musicians of tomorrow, Israeli double bassist Avishai Cohen performs here in Strasbourg (France) with Azeri pianist and composer Elchin Shirinov and the very young drummer Roni Kaspi.
In a private concert, he presented his then forthcoming album “Shifting Sands”.

For Cohen, it all began in 1992 with his arrival in New York, where he started out playing on the street. A fellow student of Brad Mehldau’s at the New School in New York City, he began working with pianist Danilo Perez. In 1997, he sent a demo tape to Chick Corea. Impressed by the freshness of his playing, the legendary pianist invited him to join the Chick Corea New Trio. They later formed the group Origin. 2008 saw the release of “Gently Disturbed”, featuring Avishai Cohen on double bass, Shai Maestro on piano and Mark Giuliana on drums.
This album had then marked a turning point in jazz history…
